Märklin Rail Car
Train Dm 7

The Finnish rail car Dm 7, nickname
"Lättähattu", is originally designed in Sweden
by Hilding Carlsson Ab. The first series (1955) was named Dm6,
which was a copy of Swedish Y6 rail car. After the first series
(15 units) the wheel diameter was increased from 613mm to 790mm,
and at same time the name was changed to Dm7 (manuf. 1955-1963).

The basis of building a Dm7 is
Märklin's BR 628, which has been manufactured as numbers
3376, 33762, 3476, 3576, 3676 and 3776. In the picture is 3376.
The boggies are suitable directly, only the plastic frames have
to removed. Parts can be used for one powered car and one trailer.

In Sweden Jeco AB manufactures
injection molded plastic housings for Y6 rail car and three different
trailers. The easiest way to get those is MJ-Hobbyexperten in
Stockholm, it also has a Online-shop www.mjhobby.se.

From the Märklin model the
five pole current conducting coupler can used to connect headlights
or interior lighting.

The framework has to be shortened
in the middle and at both ends.

The bodywork is painted with Finnish
colours (e.g. blue Humbrol nr. 14).

Here the motor has been upgraded
with Märklin set 60901. It features a high-efficiency propulsion
motor with a load regulated decoder. The original system is also
possible to use.

The easiest way to do the interior
is to use the Märklin model parts, even if they are not similar
to the Finnish prototype.

Finally the cars will be finished,
when this project proceeds in the future.
