Simn- mechanical hood wagon

The Simn- mechanical hood wagons
are used to transport large paper and board reels and heavy goods
requiring sheltered transport such as steel sheet rolls.
The drawing of the original wagon
is here.

The scale (1:87) lenght of the
wagon is 20,6cm, but as usual, the model is made shorter to improve
running characteristics in small radius curves and switches. Also
the visual impression is better with more cars. Here I chose the
lenght of 15cm.

The starting point of the project
can be any wagon of suitable lenght. Here I used Märklin
USA-wagon, which happened to be available for me and they are
also cheep to by in a set of 10 wagons (160 EUR/10pcs at Ebay.de).
The boggies are of different type, but they are not much visible
behind the two side bulks. The wagons are also fitted with close
couplers.

The building starts by making the
new housings according to the drawing. Material can be styrene-,
brass- or aluminium sheet. Here however I made the housing with
a rapid prototype machine with the CAD-files.

The parts are painted with aluminium
paint and the both end walls are blue.

The decals are self made with Bare-Metal's
decal sheet. Click the picture above to get a hi-res picture
and print it 150mm wide.

For some reason the decals did
not stick without Microscale Micro Sol.

The housing is fixed with four
snap joints.

The wagons are higher than normal
and a additional weight inside makes the running more stable.

Here the wagons are ready.
