The Railway Station

There are no Finnish buildings available on the market, but a Dutch company Artitec manufactures high quality resin building kits, and they also offer some Norwegian and Swedish buildings (eg. Vafoss, Nyåker and Solbacken). With small changes they are also suitable for Finnish landscape. The kits are much more higher quality and more detailed, than usual model kits (Faller, Pola etc.) They are also relatively easy and fast to build, this project took only two week's evenings. The kits can be ordered from: http://www.hobbyworld.nl/. The Nyåker station is a standard Swedish station and 43 identical buildings have been built allover in Sweden. Similar station building are also in Finland in various colour schemes. To my project I chose the beige/brown colours as in the station of town Kokkola.

ARTITEC model kits are made using a plastic (resin) cast technique, under vacuum conditions.

The parts are cut apart and the additional film is sanded away. The job is more easy as one could expect, and it took only 4-5 hours to prepare all parts.

It is instructed to paint the walls after assembly. However I painted the walls and other parts first and only made some finishing painting and weathering after assembly. Separately painted window frames are glued on the walls.

The building is assembled with super glue (cyano). I also made extra supports of balsa wood in the corners.

It is instructed to glue one half of the roof at the time with cyano-glue, but I glued the both sides at same time with a white glue to be able to adjust the positions. Additionally I made two ridge beams of balsa wood to support the roof.

The stairs are placed in front of the doors when the dock is finished.
