FILLED HAM ROLLS
medium-thin ham slices
about 30 g smetana
100 g cottage cheese
1 - 1½ tsp horseradish paste
½ - ¾ tsp sugar
pinch of salt
You may use either cooked, cured or slightly smoked ham. Mix the cottage cheese with some of the smetana in a small bowl to get a thickish paste.
Add some horseradish in the cheese mixture and stir until smooth.
Instead of horseradish paste you may use freshly grated horseradish according to your taste. The horseradish will thicken the smetana a bit.
If the mixture seems too thick, add some more smetana. If the mixture for some reason will not thicken enough or is too thin, add some more cottage cheese.
Season the filling with sugar and salt. Spoon some filling thickly along the edge of a slice of ham and roll up the slice, like in making a jelly roll.
Serve as an appetizer dish with tomato salad, etc.
