Sinking hammers
You can follow me with my
Making a set of Double Seconds

  • I am using wooden hammers (self-made) to do the sinking work.
One is rounded, and the other is rather flat with rounded edges.

  • I start with the right hammer hitting with the "sharper" head.
The smoothing will be done with the more flat ends.

  • You can also use an iron ball for sinking

  • I have marked the center of the drum and drawn two "hypnotic circles" to control the sinking process.
I have also marked the starting point at the seam for the same reason.

  • The center part should be held DOWN by hitting it every now and then
so that the metal is TIGHT and tensioned.
